Visit chin chin
Make time to slow down while exploring Tainan.
Chin Chin Pottery is a shop, ceramics gallery, and pottery studio in Tainan, bringing together people who share an interest in ceramics.
Come discover new things and objects, visit an exhibition, spend time with clay, or meet the people who create and live here.
We are located in a sixty-year-old house tucked away in a Tainan alley. It originally served as a pickle factory and a home for its workers, and still bears traces of the people who once lived here. Our space retains its original architectural features, including washed aggregate finishes, a timber roof structure and built-in hinoki cypress cabinets. Today, in the courtyard, a Taiwanese chinaberry tree( Melia azedarach) keeps us company through the seasons.
Here, you can discover works by ceramic artists who have lived in Tainan for many years. Each piece reflects our everyday habits in Taiwan: teapots, teaware, large bowls and platters for sharing food around a round table, small palm-sized rice bowls, and all kinds of sauce dishes. These vessels express our food culture.
You will also find works we have collected through our ongoing international exchanges, which we are happy to share with you.
We are interested in the possibilities of ceramics as a material. In this space, we come together to explore its textures and how cultural and regional differences shape diverse aesthetic expressions.
If you have more time, come upstairs, take a seat and enjoy a cup of Taiwanese tea as you take in the objects around you. If you are visiting on a Saturday, don’t miss our weekly Artist’s Table lunch. Please check the reservation details to join us and experience how food and handmade tableware come together around the table.
Stay Longer ,Two Weeks of Clay in Tainan
If you have two weeks to spend in Tainan, we invite you to make working with clay part of your stay.
Choose pottery classes or independent studio practice, work with local clay, and share in our daily rhythm of making and living. Between studio sessions, take time to explore the city and let your experiences gradually find their way into your work.
You're welcome to spend some quiet time and enjoy our space or bring stories from your travels to share with us. Beyond clay, we are also happy to share interesting things to discover and delicious food to try around the city.
If you have something special in mind, we would love to hear from you.
